Panoramic dental X-ray
All your teeth, both jaws and the maxillary sinuses on a single image. 20 seconds, UAH 390, a print and a digital copy straight away.
A panoramic image puts all the teeth, both jaws, the joints and the lower part of the maxillary sinuses onto one picture. The unit turns around your head for about twenty seconds and “unfolds” the curved jaw into a straight line.
This is the basic study in dentistry. It is where you start when you need the overall picture: how many teeth really need attention, whether there are hidden foci of infection, what condition the bone is in and where the wisdom teeth are growing.
When a panoramic image is recommended
- A first visit to the dentist or a move to a new doctor — so that a treatment plan can be drawn up instead of treating “one tooth per visit”.
- Before orthodontic treatment. Without a panoramic image you cannot see the buds of a child’s permanent teeth or the position of the roots in an adult.
- Wisdom teeth — whether they are there at all, what position they are in and whether they are pressing on the neighbouring teeth.
- Periodontitis — to assess how far the bone around the teeth has receded.
- A check-up every year or eighteen months if you have a lot of treated teeth or crowns.
Panoramic image or 3D — which to choose
These are different tools, not simply “the cheaper one and the dearer one”.
| Panoramic (OPG) | CBCT (3D) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it shows | The overall picture, all the teeth at once | A volume, a slice in any plane |
| Measuring bone in mm | No | Yes |
| Seeing the nerve | Approximately | Precisely |
| Overlapping structures | Present | None |
| Price | UAH 390 | UAH 790–1290 |
A practical rule: a panoramic image is to find the problem, 3D — to plan the treatment. Before implant placement, a difficult extraction or root canal retreatment a panoramic image is not enough.
What the UAH 390 includes
- The scan itself, on a Planmeca ProMax.
- A printed image handed to you.
- A digital copy to your email — and to your doctor’s email if needed.
The “panoramic image + TMJ” combination costs UAH 690 — people choose it when, along with the teeth, the temporomandibular joint needs checking (clicking, limited mouth opening).
How it goes
You take off your earrings, glasses and anything metal above the neck. You put on a protective apron, bite on a plastic positioner and stand still while the unit makes its turn. Twenty seconds. The image appears on the screen straight away — if you moved, that shows at once and we can repeat it there and then, at no extra charge.
We take the image and hand it over — the report and the treatment plan are made by your own doctor, because the decision depends on the clinical picture seen in the chair. If you do not have a doctor of your own, you can show the image to the Houston head doctor — with a CT scan of both jaws that consultation is free of charge.

They are one and the same study. “Orthopantomogram” (OPG) is the official name; “panoramic image” or “panoramic dental X-ray” is the everyday one. You may also hear “overview image” or simply “panoramic”.
With us it is UAH 390, and the price includes a print and a digital copy by email. A panoramic image together with a scan of the joints (TMJ) is UAH 690.
No. A panoramic image shows the overall picture, but it does not give the thickness of the bone or the exact position of the nerve — and that is precisely what planning an implant needs. Before implant placement a CBCT (3D) is required. Here the panoramic image is a first step, not a replacement.
About 20 seconds of scanning itself. You stand still while the unit turns around your head. With the preparation, a few minutes in all.
Roughly 10–15 µSv — less than a CT scan of both jaws, and hundreds of times less than the annual background dose a person receives (about 4000 µSv).
Yes, on medical grounds — as a rule from the age of 5–7, when the buds of the permanent teeth need to be seen before orthodontic treatment. The unit lowers the dose for children automatically.
