No, no referral is needed. You can come on your own — we will take the scan and pass it to your doctor for a report. If you do have a referral from your dentist or doctor, they will receive the result together with you.
Children are scanned on medical grounds, as a rule from the age of 5–7 — for orthodontic planning, problems with baby teeth, or to assess jaw growth. The Planmeca unit automatically lowers the radiation dose for children.
The scan itself takes less than 5 minutes. You get the result on the spot; with a CT of both jaws the USB Type-C drive is free. We have stored scans since 2022, so you can always come back for a copy.
A CT scan on the Planmeca unit uses a dose of 10 to 15 µSv — depending on the size of the study. For comparison, the natural background radiation we receive every day is far higher. It is completely safe.
